His comment on former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda drew laughter across party lines, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reflecting on his decades-long association with Deve Gowda, Kharge remarked that the veteran leader had once been close to the Congress but eventually aligned elsewhere. “He dated us, loved us, but married Modiji,” Kharge said, prompting a visibly amused reaction in the House.

The remark came during a farewell address marking the end of terms for several members, including Sharad Pawar and others. Kharge used the occasion to highlight his long political journey and relationships across party lines, blending humour with reflection.
